TRANSFORMATION – HOW TO DO IT

In this second article in the series, we will explore how to break down IT-driven digital or business transformation into three distinct areas, allowing businesses to focus on what matters most to them.

Breaking down digital transformation

There are three key areas to focus on within transformation, each one a combination of data, technology, tools and processes.

Infrastructure transformation:  Enabling your business to support digital and IT related initiatives through the right infrastructure and services. This includes technology and solutions for the data centre, end user computing and network infrastructure.

Workforce transformation: Enabling your business to optimise its workforce to become more productive and innovative through new workforce technology, processes and solutions. This includes innovative and new approaches to workforce mobility and collaboration, as well as Intelligent Automation (IA) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).

Security transformation: Enabling your business to embrace the latest technology with robust and relevant security in a cloud-centric, interconnected world. This includes technology and processes to stay safe, secure and compliant in the new era of GDPR, and increased cyber security threats.

Efficiency and business growth are at the heart of it

Digital transformation isn’t just about updating your IT though. When done properly it will benefit your entire business. For example:

  • Redistribute repetitive tasks to the digital workforce, freeing up staff to do higher value work that introduces real change and tangible benefits
  • Gain the tools to be productive from anywhere and at anytime
  • Access structured historical data on which key decisions can be based with confidence
  • Understand your environment and challenges with real-time data and analytics from the Internet of Things

A digital evolution

This potentially fundamental change starts with understanding the position and requirements of your business, as well as the risks you’ll face if transformation isn’t carried out. Only then can you enjoy a workplace of increased opportunity, productivity and profit.

Because while digital transformation is enabled by new technology, for it to be truly successful it requires a re-orientation that reaches every part of your organisation. It requires you to think differently, before deploying solutions and technology that will help you become what you aspire to be. This process involves three simple, but essential steps.

Think: Reappraise your thoughts on just what your business could become.

Do: Realise the aspirations of you and your customers by integrating and leveraging problem solving technology.

Become: Achieve your business vision by delivering customer satisfaction and improved growth.

Digital technology dramatically improves the economics and capabilities of every business, no matter its size. It's not only cheaper and faster to engage customers, but easier to create new offerings, mobilise partners, and run your business. So, whether you’re currently pursuing digital transformation, or are still considering which path is right for your business, it’s crucial that you make the most of the opportunities ahead of you.
