I am currently studying Business, Economics and Geography at 6th form, so when I was provided the opportunity to undertake work experience at Ultima - and gain an insight into a real operating business - I was beyond excited.
On my first day at Ultima I had a one-to-one session with the Sales Director; he gave me a lot of useful tips to become a successful salesman. We also discussed different types of sales people and their approach to customers.
I was advised to research Warren Buffett - who, as I now know, is a very successful stock trader. I also found out about the Microsoft Hololens which is shaping the future of computing with its mixed reality offering.
Some of the highlights I took away from the session were:
- Create an agenda - be clear in what you want to get from the meeting
- Plan your time - ensure you present your key points
- Presentation - understand the feature, advantage and benefit of what you are selling
During my visit I also sat down with the marketing deparment. They demonstrated their automated marketing tools, and I got to help pick out some branded merchandise goodies for customer events!
Day two saw an introduction to the world of resourcing - including consultancy and engineering. I also got to sit down with experienced Account Managers; gaining valuable pointers regarding the IT world.
The experience I gained bolstered my CV, and I enjoyed every minute. I would recommend Ultima to anyone wanting to delve into the working world of IT.
