Trying to find a job after education was a daunting task. I started looking and naturally gravitated towards IT-focused apprenticeships. I came across an ad for IT sales, and after successfully getting through the initial processes I was offered an interview here at Ultima.
Fast forward a week and I was about to meet my future manager. I could tell the office had just been built - it even smelled new! We were tasked with a Lego building team exercise, followed by a 1-1 interview.
After receiving the great news that I was successful, I got to meet four other people that I would work closely with for the foreseeable future. We've gelled well, and since then made some great friendships.
All five of us were pleased to learn we'd receive a detailed overview of the main technologies and products/services that Ultima provides – we all quickly learned that knowing more about the industry made our conversations a lot easier. There’s no way I could have told you what a hyper-converged solution was at the start!
After several inductions from co-workers who were all knowledgeable, resourceful and more than happy to answer any questions we had, it was time to apply our absorbed knowledge and put it into practice! None of us felt like we were going into our first call unprepared.
As we progressed we became a lot less robot-like, and a lot more human. The more I injected my personality and built rapport, the better the outcome. I became more confident, able to talk about several technologies.
A few months have passed, and some of us have already opened opportunities. Every day we’re getting sharper. I can already notice the growth that we’ve all undergone since we began.
The most valuable thing I’ve learned is we are not just treated as numbers. We are all valued, and continue to receive training and information to keep up to date with the speed at which the IT industry progresses.
